Every Wednesday, 11am - 2pm: Finds handling

Get hands-on with history. Visitors can get hands-on with real and replica objects, lead by one of our team of volunteers. Included in museum admission. 

Every Sunday at 2pm: Guided tour of the Roman fort

Museum visitors can explore the earthworks of the Roman fort, led by the volunteer guides. The tours last for 30-45 minutes and are subject to the weather. The fort is situated in farmland, which is uneven and there may be sheep present. Suitable footwear is recommended. We are grateful to the landowners (Cultura Trust) and their tenants for supporting the guided tours. Dogs are not allowed on the tours (except registered guide/assistance dogs).

Family Craft Drop-In

Every Tuesday through the summer holidays we will be running craft drop-in sessions. Visit the museum and make something to take away as a souvenir! Included in the price of your visit, no booking necessary. All ages welcome but children must be accompanied by an adult. Details of what you can make are on our Summer Roman Festival page.

Meet a Roman Potter

While you are visiting us, take the opportunity to meet Graham Taylor from Potted History (potted-history.co.uk) and get your hands dirty with some replica Roman pottery. Included in the price of your visit, no booking necessary. All ages welcome but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Meet the Ancient Britons

During your visit you will have the opportunity to meet some Ancient Britons (www.ancientbritain.org) and find out about life on the edge of the Roman Empire and try some crafts. Included in the price of your visit, no booking necessary. All ages welcome but children must be accompanied by an adult.
